DON'T FORCE BETS WITH YOUR LOCAL TEAMS

One of the biggest mistakes the public makes when it comes to football betting is that they risk way too much in games involving their local teams.

They assume they're experts because they watch all the games and read the local newspaper coverage. They think they "know"when a big performance is coming, or a flat performance. They also have a selective memory about past victories that blinds them to all the losses.

You see, if a fan of a team loses a bet on that team...it's because the coach is an idiot or the quarterback was incompetent. It's never the bettor's fault!

If a fan has given up on his team, and bets the other way out of disgust...any loss is blamed on the gods punishing him for his lack of support.

Gamblers are very bad about accepting blame for their errors. And, they're very bad about forcing bets that shouldn't ever have been made.

Let me give you a personal example. I'm hailed as THE KING OF LAS VEGAS in the world of sports handicapping because of my dominant performance over decades. You've seen it yourself on TV and online. I wouldn't say I'm the "King of UNLV Football"though. I'm not right about what the Rebels will do week in and week out. I am able to pick my spots a couple of times a year and step out with a big play that has a great percentage chance of covering. You're not going to see 12 picks in 12 games, that's for sure.

UNLV hosts Wisconsin Saturday Night in a game that will be televised nationally by VERSUS. I've studied the matchup here very closely. I know how much customers love winning TV games. I know how impressive the Mountain West has been in non-conference games the past few seasons. Should I step out with a SHOCK THE SYSTEM upset call? Or, should I be looking at the favorite because Wisconsin is so big and beefy at the point of attack? Is it best to leave the game alone?

You'll have to sign up for service to see if I have a play here. My point today is that YOU need to focus on finding the best edges on the board REGARDLESS of where those games are being played...or whether or not your alma mater is playing.

Don't lay 30-something points on the Longhorns just because you went to Texas. Make sure you can make a case for a blowout win that won't get derailed in garbage time.
Don't bet your rivalry game if you went to Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, or Louisville. Your favorite team can hear you screaming whether or not you have money down in a Vegas book. If there's a real edge there, THEN bet it. I became the industry leader by betting with my head, not my heart (and it doesn't hurt that my alma mater is an Ivy League school that isn't on the board!).
Spend some time today thinking about what your "blind spots"may have cost you in past seasons. What was your REAL record last year in games involving your alma mater, or a high profile local team? Oh, I can direct you to some USC fans who lost a fortune last year with the Trojans, then got spanked again this past Thursday Night in the Hawaii game. I still have contacts in Hollywood from my "handicapper to the stars"legacy. It's amazing how often I have to talk them out of betting USC. Does somebody need to talk YOU out of some bets?
